“You are what you eat” applies to our dogs and cats too! Unsurprisingly, there’s increasing evidence that a fresh raw diet has health benefits for our canine and feline friends. For example, dogs generally have cleaner, stronger teeth and can be healthier and happier on a diet they would naturally choose themselves such as raw meaty bones, fresh meat and organs, vegetables, berries and herbs. You will hear the words ‘Biologically appropriate’, ‘BARF’, Prey Model and Fresh but essentially they are all raw food diets for dogs (although fresh can mean cooked too). It is worth doing some research about raw feeding as there are aspects that need careful consideration. Binky’s Healing Journey
We asked Lolie Borgars, one of our long-term supporters, to tell us about her beloved dog Binky and what prompted her to introduce complementary treatments into his care. Her observations about hydrotherapy in particular reveal just how holistic care can help your animal on so many levels and strengthen your bond with them. It gave Binky the chance to thrive despite his problems.
Animal Pain
Signs of an animal being in pain are varied and not always as obvious as a dog whining and holding a paw up or a hot sweaty horse kicking at their flanks. We asked Julie Anne Lee of Adored Beast Apothecary to explain what to be aware of in detecting pain and what to do about it. This blog first appeared on the Adored Beast Apothecary website and we reproduce it here with thanks.
